Restord Visit Y4/5

On Thursday 7th May, we welcomed Tom who is the founder of the company Restord in Dobwalls. We learnt that charcoal is full of carbon but biochar is a new a resource which can be made instead and focusses on being a sustainable product made out of dead wood using a pyrolysis machine.  The machine burns the deadwood at a very high temperature without oxygen to form the biochar.

Tom and Anna worked with children in Year 4 and Year 5. They were able to learn what biochar is, how it is made right here in Dobwalls and they planted a seed using biochar. It can be used by farmers on fields, mixing into asphalt and concrete and mixed in with animal bedding.

It was a fascinating morning and we look forward to watching the seeds grow as well as the Restord mission. Thank you Tom and Anna for visiting us!
